Don\u2019t you love this modern world of dating where it\u2019s normalized to commit to no one and treat everyone you date as just an option?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n No?<\/p>\n Me neither.<\/p>\n Gone are the days of virtue and valuing the family.<\/p>\n It\u2019s a jungle out there.\u00a0<\/p>\n And now we have a new dating term to familiarize ourselves with every other week. One of these terms is situationship.<\/em><\/p>\n A situationship is a relationship that isn\u2019t defined and has no label.<\/p>\n Situationships exist in that awkward area between a committed relationship and something more than friends.<\/p>\n So if you\u2019re seeing someone but have no idea what you guys actually are, or tend to tell others it\u2019s \u201ccomplicated\u201d when they ask about the relationship, then you\u2019re probably in a situationship.<\/p>\n The difference between a situationship and dating is this:<\/p>\n When you\u2019re dating, you\u2019re meeting each other regularly with the mutual understanding that it has the potential to lead to a committed romantic relationship.<\/p>\n However, in a situationship, you may act like you\u2019re a couple, but neither of you are certain about whether there\u2019s a future together.<\/p>\n Often you\u2019re also afraid of bringing up the topic of a future or of having \u201cthe relationship talk\u201d,<\/strong><\/a> because a situationship is such a superficial connection.<\/p>\n This superficial nature of things makes for a very weak foundation, hence situationships often hang by a string.<\/p>\n Kind of like if you so much as mention <\/em>becoming more committed to each other, your \u201cperson\u201d might disappear or flip it.<\/p>\n Essentially the relationship is so weak that it\u2019s always at risk of being lost.<\/p>\n If that sounds somewhat stressful or toxic, it\u2019s because it is. (Or can be).<\/p>\n They might seem similar, but the situationship meaning vs the meaning of friends with benefits are very different.<\/p>\n In both of these relationships, you\u2019re having sex. You could have official feelings for each other, but neither of you are really sure <\/em>of anything \u2013 or if you are an item.\u00a0<\/p>\n There are some telltale signs of a situationship. Let\u2019s look at all the signs now.<\/p>\n Or you notice that if ever you try to define the relationship, the guy tries to say he doesn\u2019t like using \u201clabels\u201d.<\/p>\n This is the cardinal sign of a situationship, because that\u2019s what situationships are: undefined relationships with no labels.<\/p>\n You may still have official or unofficial \u201cfeelings\u201d for each other, but you may feel like the relationship is constantly in limbo.<\/p>\n Another fundamental sign of a situationship is when you\u2019re always anxious with this person or about this person.<\/p>\n You never know what you are to the guy, and nor does he seem to want to put your mind at ease.<\/p>\n You\u2019re kind of expected to be ok with everything being constantly up in the air.<\/p>\n And you can\u2019t ask him about what you are, because you\u2019re afraid that if you do, it\u2019ll complicate things even more.<\/p>\n Enter the endless cycle of anxiety\u2026for you.<\/p>\n And perhaps for him too. He will chase you down to define what you are.<\/p>\n So don\u2019t buy into the idea that it\u2019s just \u201ccomplicated\u201d or he just needs more time.<\/p>\n Maybe he does, but it\u2019s not so he can commit.<\/p>\n It\u2019s so that he can avoid dealing with your feelings for a little bit longer whilst still having access to sex.<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n If he lets things continue to be just a situationship, that means you\u2019re in the \u201cone of many\u201d women category.<\/p>\n If you know my work, you\u2019ll be familiar with this concept.<\/p>\n But if you\u2019re not, it\u2019s pretty simple:<\/p>\n For every man you date, you\u2019ll be placed in either one of two categories.<\/p>\n Yes it is that simple.\u00a0<\/p>\n Men will try to lead you on if you\u2019re their one of many. They\u2019ll keep you around for ten years, having you believe that someday they may commit.<\/p>\n And maybe they will \u2013 at least on the surface.\u00a0<\/p>\n But it will never be the commitment your heart desires.
