36 Best Teen Shows on Netflix to Binge-Watch Now
[ad_1]
I have a teen cousin who is in the senior high school now, is an avid reader and movie enthusiasts. She is now bored with movies and wants some good teen shows to watch.
Since her school isn’t opening anytime sooner, she has plenty of time in her hands. She either read books, does online classes, plays with her young brother, and at night she enjoys watching movies and shows.
The other day we did a video chat and asked me to recommend a few teens show on Netflix that she can watch. She is my favorite, and when it comes to giving her advice, I am a bit picky.
So, I suggested a few shows that are fun, clean, and contain no adult scenes.
After that, I thought, like my cousin, other teens might also be looking for suggestions on what to watch on the streaming platforms that are appropriate for them.
Teens don’t enjoy kid’s shows; neither are they allowed to watch adult shows. So, it’s hard to find good entertainment options.
Among all the streaming platforms, I believe Netflix has the most options for the best teen shows and teen movies. In this blog post, I will share 28 best teen shows that all teenagers can enjoy watching.
(I am not a teen, I am a grown-up who often love watching teen movies and shows. All the recommendations are based on my personal experience.)

I watched ‘Never Have I Ever’ on Netflix when it got released, and it completely blew my mind because of its brilliance.
It is an American coming-of-age comedy series that focuses on an Indian origin teen girl Devi Vishwakumar (Maitreyi Ramakrishnan), who lives in California with her mother and aunt after her father’s untimely demise.
The series center around her freshman year, where she tries to cope with her grief of losing her father. Her confusion about her Indian identity, her American lifestyle, struggling relationship with her mother, and school life.

Greenhouse Academy
IMDB Rating: 7.0
Greenhouse Academy is one of the best teen shows on Netflix to binge-watch. It is a near-perfect series with a phenomenal cast, screenplay, plot, suspense, and thriller. There are four seasons, and it is a quite addictive show.
I am suggesting teens should watch addictive shows, but if you have plenty of leisure time, it can surely watch it.
The story takes place in an elite private boarding school in Southern California, where siblings Hayley and Alex enroll in the Greenhouse Academy after the demise of their mother.
The two siblings turn into rivals as they are both in separate houses. But a suspenseful course of events makes them go against everything and fight.

Everything Sucks
“Everything Sucks!” is a Netflix original series that premiered in 2018. It is a coming-of-age comedy-drama set in 1996 in the fictional town of Boring, Oregon. The show follows a group of high school freshmen who belong to the A/V club and the drama club, as they navigate their way through adolescence and high school.
The main characters of the show are Luke O’Neil and Kate Messner.Throughout the series, Luke and Kate develop a friendship as they work together on a movie project for the A/V club. The two clubs eventually team up to create a joint production of the musical “The Crucible”, which leads to romantic tension between Luke and Kate.
The show deals with a range of issues that teenagers face, including bullying, peer pressure, sexuality, family problems, and finding one’s place in the world. It also incorporates a lot of 1990s pop culture references, including music, movies, and TV shows.

The Society
IMDB Rating: 7.1
“The Society” is a Netflix original mystery teen show which centers around a bunch of teenagers who resides in a wealthy town with their parents. But mysteriously, everyone vanishes, leaving no trace behind.
The high school teens are trapped, and soon there is chaos, murder, and confusion. There is no electricity, limited food, no authority, no way to connect with anyone else outside the town.
There is only one season, and the last episode left for the audience a lot of questions. Season 2 will be there on Netflix.

Free Rein
IMDB Rating: 7.3
British television teen drama “Free Rein” is a beautiful Netflix original show. The story follows a 15-year-old teen girl named Zoe from Los Angeles who, with her mother, comes to her grandfather’s house on an island off the coast of England.
She met with other stable girls who take great care of their horses. On the island, she met and found a connection with a wild horse named Raven. It has a beautiful theme and a family-friendly show to watch.
The story is pleasant, and it’s about friendship, bonding with friends, humanity, love for horses, and simple countryside life.
I have watched all the seasons of the show available on Netflix, and I recommend all the teens to watch it.

Teen Wolf
IMDB Rating: 7.6
If you are into the supernatural and fantasy genre, then Scott McCall starring as Tyler Posey in the American teen drama series “Teen Wolf,” should be on your list.
There are six seasons, and it is a mix of suspense, romance, friendship, bonding, horror, fantasy, comedy; it has every element of entertainment.
The story revolves around a young werewolf Tyler Posey; a high school student lives in a fictional town in California.
He is bitten by an alpha werewolf and start showing changes in his body and behavior during his second year of high school.
There are supernatural incidents; Tyler, as a werewolf, protects his hometown and his friends from the enemies.

IMDB Rating: 8.8
Netflix’s original “Stranger Things” is one of the most-watched TV shows on Netflix. It is a sci-fi one of the best teens shows to binge-watch and is created by the Duffer Brothers. There are three seasons, and all the seasons have gained a massive number of viewership.
The story takes place in a fictional town named Hawkins in Indiana, set in the 80s’. Will (Noah Schnapp) suddenly disappears while coming back to his home at night. Joyce Byers (Winona Ryder), Jim Hopper (David Harbour), and all the three friends of Will begin their investigation of finding him.
During the investigation process, what they find out is beyond anyone’s imagination; the plot introduces eleven (Millie Bobby Brown).
There are several reasons why you should watch “Stranger Thing.”
Riverdale
IMDB Rating: 7.0
Based on the characters of Archie Comics, “Riverdale” is also a teen romantic supernatural show on Netflix having 4 seasons. Riverdale is a town where four teenage friends Archie, Betty, Veronica, and Jughead, are fighting with the town’s sinister.
There is romance, fighting, friendship, supernatural stories, and suspense in the episodes of “Riverdale.”
Although I lost interest in season 4 for its too much juggling of plot and characters, till season 3, it is worth your time.
Sex Education
IMDB Rating: 8.3
Netflix Original teen show “Sex Education” is one of the best TV shows to binge-watch. It talks about an important and sensitive subject but in a unique way. It is funny, heartfelt, responsible, mature, highly entertaining; the title itself says so much.
All the cast Asa Butterfield, Ncuti Gatwa, Gillian Anderson, Emma Mackey, and the other supporting casts, performed with so much clarity and perfectly.
Asa, as Otis, is a socially awkward high school student living with his mother, Jean, a sex therapist. Otis never discusses with his mom about sex, but he emerges as good guidance on this topic and earns side income by helping others.
Ncuti, as Eric, is a ray of light in “Sex Education.” He is the best friend of Otis, and he is gay, of which he is proud of. He laughs, affectionate, and never leaves his friend behind despite going through his problems.
Do not judge by the title; there is no vulgarity rather very educational.
Rebelde
In Mexico, there’s a telenovela called Rebelde. It’s about a group of students who live in an elite private school and they experience love, heartbreak, and hardships.
Streaming in Netflix, I started watching it now, and I am obsessed with the Spanish songs the cast sang on the show. The plot is nothing extraordinary, quite predictable, but the characters are engaging enough to keep you all hooked up.
Especially the songs are amazing.

Legacies
IMDB Rating: 7.5
“Legacies” is a fantasy drama television series, and it follows “The Originals” and “The Vampire Diaries.” The story revolves around Hope Mikaelson, daughter of vampire Klaus Mikaelson and Hayley Marshall, a werewolf and a witch bloodline.
If you have watched the vampire series “The Originals,” you will enjoy watching “Legacies.” Hope is now a grown-up and attends the Salvatore school for gifted supernatural ones.

Chilling Adventures of Sabrina
IMDB Rating: 7.6
Netflix Original “Chilling Adventures of Sabrina” is an adaptation of the “Sabrina the Teenage Witch,” based on the Archie comics. It has 3 seasons, centers around a young half-mortal and half-witch Sabrina Spellman, portrayed by Kiernan Shipka.
Like the title suggests, the seasons talk about young Sabrina’s adventures in the world of supernatural standing against the evil forces that threaten her, her family, and her friends.
The series has the maximum blend of young romance, fantasy-horror, bonding, and a little punch of comedy too.

Atypical
IMDB Rating: 8.3
I watched Netflix Original teen coming-of-age drama television show a few months back, and I have never experienced a show like “Atypical.”
There is happiness, sadness, laughter, pain, siblings love, marriage, relationship, weirdness. It has every emotion and issues.
The show is about an autistic teen, Sam trying to fit into the real world, searching for his love and independence. It is a show about how a family deals when their kid is autistic, how the outside world reacts.
Sam shows us that it is okay to be autistic, and with a little support and love, they can also fit into the real world. May be can not win the rat race but can step forward and try.
I would say the series will change your perspective about people.
I Am Not Okay with This
IMDB Rating: 7.6
Yet another Netflix Original teen coming-of-age show that is weird, funny, supernatural, and talks about a teen girl named Sydney. She discovers that she has superpowers and her sexuality. She is struggling to fit into the high school environment.
She doesn’t have any friends except Dina. There is only one season that uncovers Sydney’s hidden powers and psychology.

Derry Girls
I had binge-watched one of the best British sitcoms “Derry Girls” a few days ago, and I would want all the teens to watch this. The story is set in Derry, in Northern Ireland in the 90s’, where Erin and her friends attend a catholic girl school.
With the girls joined a ‘wee English fella’ James, cousin of Michelle; nobody in the town likes James because he is British. The girls and Erin’s family hates the fact that Derry is still under the British, and there are British Army checkpoints everywhere.
It is a perfectly curated cast, and the use of dark humor in the dialogues makes it more sense to watch. It is an incredible show, but listening to the dialogues as the Irish accent is tough to understand for the non-Britisher.
The “Derry Girls” is a hidden treasure of Netflix, I would say.
The Fosters
It is an American family drama that follows the lives of the Foster family. Lesbian couple Stef and Lena, and the lives of their adopted children. It is an amazing show that portrays amazing characters, and every episode tells a story mixed with humor, complicated situations, teen life, and parenting stuff.
I recommend adult teens can binge-watch the show.

Elite
Rotten Tomatoes: 97%
The Spanish teen suspense thriller drama television series “Elite” is a quite addictive show to watch. The story begins with three working-class teenage students get themselves to enroll through scholarship in a private school that is meant for the wealthy people of the town.
For the obvious reason, there is a clash between the richer students and the working-class, but there is also romance.
The theme of the “Elite” takes on progressive teen issues like competition, love, friendship, and there is a cultural angle in the story too. It is a well-written script and has an assembled good young cast.

Trinkets
IMDB Rating: 7.1
American teen drama series “Trinkets” revolves around three teenagers at the high school who have a shoplifting addiction. Elodie was struggling to fit in the high school after her mother died but found two amazing friends who share a similar interest.
Both the seasons of the show have diversity and talks about a refreshing issue of teenagers.
Some say season 2 is boring, but if you understand the theme and can connect with the characters, it is worth a watch.
There won’t be any other season because the story ends in that way in the second season.
The Innocents
Rotten Tomatoes: 86%
Netflix Original teen series “The Innocents” follows the two teenagers Harry and June, who are deeply in love. Both decided to run away to be with each other forever, but the journey takes a mysterious turn as June discovers that she can shape-shift.
The young lovers are desperate to find peace and find a cure for June, claims a professor.
Can the professor cure June? What will happen to their love? “The Innocents,” tells a story of love amidst the supernatural.
Pretty Little Liars
IMDB Rating: 7.4
If you want to binge-watch a show that has everything and won’t bore you even for a minute, “Pretty Little Liars” is one of the best teen shows on Netflix then.
The series of 7 seasons follows the lives of four teenage girls – Aria, Spenser, Hanna, and Emily. Four friends, each having their darkest secrets that get disclose unexpectedly.
There is murder, suspense, thriller, teen romance, comedy, friendship, traumatic events, and it is a package of everything.
“Pretty Little Liars” is an amazing show with a great cast and compelling performances make it worthy of a watch by the teenagers.

Teenage Bounty Hunters
Rotten Tomatoes: 91%
“Teenage Bounty Hunters” is Netflix’s newest addition in the teen TV shows. The story follows the lives of twin sisters Sterling and Blair at high school and their adventurous part-time job as bounty hunters. Both the sisters work with an undercover cop Bowser.
The series also sheds light on the newly discovered sexuality of Sterling, where she is in love with her former rival, April.
Adult teens will surely gonna love the show.
The Unlisted
The next teen show that I would add on the list is an Australian teen sci-fi series meant for the children and young teenagers.
The series follows a twin brother Drupad and Kalpen Sharma, who uncovers a dirty secret government plot where a program is designed to control the children’s behavior and mind.
It is a great underrated teen TV show on Netflix that I would recommend watching.

The Hockey Girls
If you are interested in shows of other languages, Netflix has the Spanish-Catalan language teen show “The Hockey Girls.” A series follows a team of passionate teenage girl hockey players trying to prove the club that they are worthy and should be treated well.
The girls are fighting for their position in hockey, striving to make time for the family, relationship, and their issues.
It is a good series with a great theme and cast.

Warrior Nun
Netflix Original fantasy series “Warrior nun” is not a typical teen show but can be enjoyed by the teen adult. There is only 1 season released in 2020 that follows the story of a young woman named Ava who wakes up in the church with a mysterious power from an ancient artifact embedded on her back.
She and the warrior nuns of the church have the duty of fighting the demons on Earth. Season 1 ends with the arrival of a demonic figure on Earth named Adriel.
The series has an interesting and engaging supernatural concept.

13 Reasons Why
IMDB Rating:7.7
The American teen drama series “13 Reasons Why” is one of the controversial and much talked about TV shows on Netflix. The 4 seasons of the series mainly brings into light the issue of ‘bullying in high school in America.’
The story begins with a teenage girl Hanna played by Katherine Langford, who commits suicide after becoming a victim of continuous bullying and rape by her fellow classmate.
The story then picks up with each teenage character, their version of the story, their lives inside and outside the school, etc.
The series got unnecessary dislikes and bad reviews. The first two seasons of the series portrays the bullying issue in the high schools vividly and shows how dangerous it is for a student’s psychology and mental health.
There are also drug-related issues that have been talked about. Justin Foley, who is an addict, ruined his life. Millions of teenagers in high school become addicted to substances, and it spoils their life and their family too.
So, do not judge by looking at the IMDB or Rotten Tomatoes rating.

Cobra Kai
Netflix Original series ‘Cobra kai’ is the sequel of the original ‘The Karate Kid’ by Robert Mark Kamen. You must have remembered the story of ‘The Karate Kid,’ ‘Cobra Kai’ is the continuation of the rivalry between Jonny and Daniel after thirty-four years.
Jonny seeks redemption by opening the Cobra Kai dojo and stand against Daniel. The series is quite interesting to watch, and especially for the 90s’ teens, it is a must-watch series on Netflix.

Fate: The Winx Saga
‘Fate: The Winx Saga’ is an interesting fictional teen drama that tells the story of fairies attending a magical boarding school that existed only in the Otherworld. The teens are learning to master their powers.
Soon, the school and the fairies were attacked by some monsters that were way more powerful than the amateur fairies.
Can they save the school and themselves?

Heartstopper
IMDB Rating: 8.7
It seems everyone has fallen in love with Netflix’s Heartstopper. Based on Alice Oseman’s self-published webcomic, the series follows Charlie and Nick two teen queer boys, found love and friendship among each other.
More than just a queer teen love story, the show tackles traumatic issues like bullying, homophobia and how queer teens struggles to accept for who they are. In the show, we see Charlie’s struggling with his identity, whereas Nick had a traumatic bullying experience in the high school.
The content of the show feels fresh. It is a kind of show where you will connect with the story and its characters. It has shown the darkness that teens face but turns it into light and optimism in the end.

The babysitter club
IMDB RATING: 7.3
Rotten Tomatoes : 100%
It’s so frustrating when Netflix continues to cancelling shows leaving a cliffhanger, luckily they haven’t done that with ‘The Babysitter Club’ anytime soon.
It is an entertaining show that celebrates individuality and value of friendship. It is a beautiful female centred story where the gang of girls trying to solve traditional issues like poor grades, overprotective parents, absent parents, sibling conflict and etc.
I really feel these kinds of shows should get more attention and Netflix certainly shouldn’t cancel.

The Last Kid on Earth
IMDB Rating: 7.2
The last Kid on Earth streaming on Netflix is probably the best kid TV show I have ever seen recently. The story follows a fictional town Wakefield that has gone through an apocalyptic event where you see monsters and zombies moving around.
Our protagonist, Jack Sullivan, is learning how to survive being on his own and his adventure.
It is based on a book series by Max Brallier and the series had follow the book very closely. It is made for the age group between 8 – 14, and my call is even as parent you should let your kid watch the series.

Xo Kitty
This hidden gem on Netflix takes the teen drama genre to new heights, offering a refreshing and thought-provoking narrative that will keep you hooked from start to finish. This tv series had a straight forward storyline with few twist just for its first season.
Kitty had the opportunity through a scholarship to school in the same high school her late mom studied, this enabled her to find more answers about her mom. Also an added bonus, she got to see her boyfriend who is also schooling there.
There comes a twist on the way to her journey. Now, how she messes up everything and manages her relationships with her new found friends and culture is worth investing your time on. This is a totally fun-filled teen love series which should be on the watch list of yours.

Wednesday
If you’re a fan of all things eerie, enchanting, and delightfully twisted, then hold onto your broomsticks because “Wednesday” is here to cast its spell on your screen. This bewitching teen series takes us into the peculiar world of Wednesday Addams from the iconic Addams Family franchise, shedding light on her rebellious teenage years.
With stunning visuals that blend Tim Burton-esque aesthetics with a modern twist, “Wednesday” transports viewers into an otherworldly realm where darkness reigns supreme. But what truly sets “Wednesday” apart is its fiercely independent titular character portrayed by an exceptionally talented young actress.
The Netflix teen TV series ‘Wednesday’ has taken the streaming world by storm, captivating audiences with its unique blend of mystery, romance, and supernatural elements. Set in the fictional town of Ravenwood, this show follows the enigmatic Wednesday Adams as she navigates high school while unraveling a web of dark secrets within her community.
I truly love the Addam family cartoon and now I was completely in awe of the series when it came on Netflix. It is totally a bingeable best teen shows on Netflix.

Heartbreak High
The Netflix teen TV series ‘Heartbreak High’ is a captivating journey through the ups and downs of adolescence. As we follow a diverse group of students navigating their way through love triangles, personal struggles, and societal pressures.
Each episode unapologetically delves into relatable issues like identity crises, family conflicts, and first loves. It confronts taboos head-on while championing diversity and fostering empathy among its audience.
This series effortlessly intertwines laughter with tears as it explores themes such as friendship, ambition, rebellion, and heartache. These are some most common high school themes that you can get to see in the series but it is the combination of everything which is interesting to watch. Basically, you are revisting your school days through this series.

Young Royals
The Netflix phenomenon knows no bounds when it comes to captivating audiences with its wide array of teen television series. One such gem that has taken the streaming platform by storm is “Young Royals.”
Set in the prestigious Hillerska boarding school in Sweden, this show offers a refreshing twist on traditional monarch-focused narratives. As the youngest member of the Swedish royal family, Wilhelms’ every move is scrutinized under the watchful eye of his traditionalist father and demanding monarchy.
The series tackles real-life issues faced by teenagers today—identity struggles, societal pressures—and intertwines them seamlessly into a story brimming with tension and emotion. “Young Royals” delivers an immersive experience for all senses.
The show beautifully captures the complexities of being a teenager caught between two worlds, a life steeped in privilege juxtaposed against personal yearnings for freedom.

True Beauty
At first glance, ‘True Beauty’ might seem like your typical teenage romantic comedy. However, beneath its glossy exterior lies a thought-provoking exploration of society’s obsession with outer appearance.
‘True Beauty’ serves not only as entertainment but also as a reminder that true beauty transcends physical attributes. It challenges us to look beyond society’s shallow standards for acceptance and encourages viewers to celebrate their individuality unapologetically.
This Korean drama adaptation based on the popular webtoon explores the complex life of Lim Ju-kyung, a high school student who goes to great lengths to hide her true appearance behind layers of makeup.
As viewers follow Ju-kyung’s journey towards self-acceptance, they are reminded that beauty lies within each individual and cannot be solely defined by external appearances.
Whether you’re a fan of K-dramas or simply love well-crafted coming-of-age stories, ‘True Beauty’ will undoubtedly leave you craving for more episodes.

Netflix has become the go-to platform for binge-worthy entertainment, and its collection of teen shows is no exception. Among the gems waiting to be discovered, one series in particular stands out with its unique blend of mystery, drama, and spine-tingling suspense – ‘Boo, Bitch’.
Set in the quaint town of Hollow Falls (aptly named), it follows a group of high school misfits as they navigate their way through love triangles, friendships gone awry, and unexplained paranormal occurrences.
It has the elements of mystery, romance, and supernatural intrigue to create an irresistible blend that keeps viewers hooked from start to finish.
What sets this series apart from others is its seamless blend of genres, it’s part thriller, part comedy-drama with just the right touch of fantasy thrown in.

Conclusion
Netflix has a wide array of great TV shows of various genres. These are the 29 best teen shows that I would recommend for teenagers.
