Their cries for consolation or starvation crammed the midnight space, and I stumbled down the hall to scoop them up. I sat in a rocking chair and hummed a small tune as they snuggled near. Then the several years went by, and they grew from newborn to toddler and baby to teen. My nights became my very own all over again as I slept night time immediately after evening, knowing they have been tucked in protected and audio down the hall.

They entered adulthood, and with it arrived the more substantial cares of everyday living. No longer can I hear their cries from down the corridor and hurry to soothe them. In its place, I lay awake and wrestled with ponder and be concerned. Still, I continue to want to rescue them, give them guidance, and see them consider it.
